Live Free Or Die
Freedom is worth fighting for and combating misinformation is necessary to preserve our freedoms. What I have learned through my journey.
Before the end of 2019, my life was ripe with many competing responsibilities and multiple major life changing events all in a span of a few short years. I didn’t even have time to watch TV or read news articles.
When I finally had the luxury of turning on the news and the majority of programs were telling the nation that President Trump was a dictator and equivalent to Hitler, I was shocked. In 2016 my life turned upside. At that particular point in time, 16 GOP candidates were running for the presidency. At this point in my life, major events were transpiring including changing residency more than once. Because of these reasons, when the Presidential election approached, I was out of my voting district and was not able to vote. To be honest, I lost track of the general election candidates and wouldn’t have even been able to intelligently decide on any candidate from either party.
December 2019 approaches and I’m settled into my new life, in another new city and was able to observe the outside world once again. To my shock, I learn many news pundits were calling President Trump a racist and akin to Hitler. How could a nation vote such a monster into the White House? I was confused, dismayed and perplexed. To be honest, I missed the whole thing including the hyped up often times mischaracterized Charlottesville protest.
Three months into my new life Covid-19 shocks the world and much of the nation goes into lockdown. A blessing from the Good Lord for me since it gave me extra time to learn my outside world again. It did not take long for me to decipher the propaganda. The rest is history and I’m still learning.
A philosophical question fills my mind often, how can so many people be willingly misled?
